Friday night gave us one of the more lopsided games of high school basketball you’ll see, as the Edmond North girls basketball team dominated the Deer Creek Antlers, 82-17.

The defending Class 6A state champs made quick and swift work of their Edmond foes in a game that saw 10 different Lady Huskies score a point. This win comes off the heels of a 49-29 road victory in the team’s season opener over Putnam City North.

Friday’s matchup was all but decided from very early on, as Edmond North jumped out to a staggering 36-1 lead midway through the second quarter. Allison Heathcock put on a clinic at both ends of the court, finishing with 19 points and seven rebounds to lead the Lady Huskies. The Creighton University-commit also picked up a plethora of steals on defense.

By the halfway point, Edmond North led the contest 43-3 with only two Antlers recording a bucket in the entire half. The shots just weren’t falling for Deer Creek early on.

The Antlers improved offensively starting in the second half. By now the Edmond North reserves were beginning to sub in and the visitors were able to find baskets more consistently. Senior guard Imani Cudjoe finished with 11 points and three rebounds to lead the team.

The Lady Huskies never took their foot off the gas, continuing their onslaught by way of starters and reserves alike. A 39-point second half from the home team put the Antlers away for good with one of the more dominant performances we will likely see from 6A hoops this year.

Edmond North took down their cross-town rivals by a final score of 82-17. It is the most points the Lady Huskies have recorded since beating Capitol Hill, 97-3, in last season’s regional playoffs. Heathcock led the way in this one with 19 points, Kate Melton racked up 13 points with eight assists and Johari Hall contributed 12 points and four rebounds off the bench.

Through just two games, head coach Pete Paparhonis and the defending state champion Lady Huskies look like they’ll again be the heavy favorites to land back in the title game come March. They’ll play next on Tuesday, Dec. 5, when they host Norman North (2-0) at 6 P.M.

Deer Creek falls to 0-2 on the season under coach Hope Heinen. They’ll have a chance to recuperate from Friday’s loss when they go on the road to face Putnam City North on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 6 P.M.
