Muscle cars, SWAT trucks, sports cars and free food.
LibertyFest’s Car Show & ParkFest had it all Saturday at Hafer Park in Edmond.
Fords, Chevys, Jeeps, foreign cars and fire rescue vehicles were lined up on both sides of Hafer Park’s trail. Multiple bouncy houses and playgrounds were scattered around the park for children, as well.
To say it was a sunny day was an understatement. The sun was beaming down on the area with a blistering 11 UV rating, which is classified as "extreme" by the World Health Organization.
Fortunately, the 1.4-mile trail has plenty of shade provided by large trees all over the park.
Patrons voted for their favorite cars in various categories and, after a long day, awards were handed out by LibertyFest President Eriech Tapia.
Edmond resident Joe Struckle won a glimmering trophy for his 1960 Morgan, an English car with a wooden frame.
“It’s quite an honor to have all these trophies you’ve won from a sports car that you love,” he said.
Numerous owners of new and old models of Corvettes, Camaros and Shelbys also won trophies.
More than 50 years later, LibertyFest is still enticing people with its free watermelon.
“We came in 1977 and the watermelon is what brought us that first time,” Edmond's Gary Sparks said.
Food trucks were parked along the path, offering snow cones, lemonade, cotton candy, popcorn, grilled cheese and more.
“We looked up things to do in Edmond today and my kids picked this festival," resident Katoya Kinsey said. "We loved the cars and everyone was super nice, letting us take pictures in cars we’ve always wanted to see.”
